Renochlor | Management of Chronic Kidney Disease

Renochlor Tablets

It is a nutraceutical preparation that functions typically and uniquely as a renal concentrating antioxidant to control oxidative stress & more.
It contains Sodium Copper chlorophyllin, also called as ‘chlorophyllin copper complex’. The vital reason to use Renochlor in CKD is that it accumulates in the kidneys and not only increases the renal anti-oxidant levels by combating oxidative stress in the kidneys but also improves the renal functioning in multiple ways.

FAQs

  • One natural source of copper chlorophyll is wheatgrass. This contains about 70% chlorophyll to provide benefits like Sodium copper chlorophyllin that include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and detoxifying effects.
  • But, as this chlorophyll is surrounded by fat substances, the result is only partial absorption in the small intestine.
  • This apart, chlorophylls are degraded rapidly to pheophytins in response to the highacidity of the gastric phase.
  • The chlorophyll extracted from the plant is not stable at room temperature; hence, to enable stability and prevent breakdown with acids, it must be converted to its salts such as Sodium-Copper derivative.

  • It contains chlorophyllin – a semi-synthetic derivative of chlorophyll – the natural green pigment found in plants.
  • At the center of the chlorophyll molecule, there is Magnesium which stabilizes the molecule & transfers electrons for the photosynthetic process. In Chlorophyllin, the magnesium atom in chlorophyll is replaced with Copper & sodium atoms.
  • Copper in Renochlor is useful not only as an essential component of numerous enzymes and proteins but also in the formation of the superpower antioxidant – superoxide dismutase (SOD).
  • After magnesium is replaced with Copper, the resulting molecule is a stable, water-soluble substance useful for its ability to scavenge free radicals + oxidative stress.
  • Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin is already available in USA, Australia, and Singapore.
  • Formed by saponification of chlorophyll molecules in an alkaline medium containing methanolic sodium hydroxide.

Renochlor is recommended to be started at a low dose & then the dose is gradually increased, depending on the Side effects. The possible side effects include:

  • Appetite suppression + increased feeling of fullness, by affecting the hormones that regulate hunger and satiety.
  • Greenish tint to the urine, feces, tongue, or skin in some people.
  • Allergic reactions in a few, who are allergic to copper chlorophyll or its components to cause symptoms such as itching, rash, swelling, or difficulty in breathing.
  • Gastrointestinal disturbances like nausea, vomiting, diarrheal, or abdominal cramps, especially in high doses or on an empty stomach.
  • Interreference with the absorption or metabolism of some medications causing drug interactions, e.g. warfarin, cyclosporine, or digoxin.
